What’s Going On – Week of 01/16/17

January 16th, 2017 by

The Great Northern – January 27th – Feb. 5th

The Great Northern is a grouping of events between Minneapolis and St. Paul to showcase the very best of the Twin Cities during the wintery months. “We believe in being out in it. The cold. The ice. The snow. The flurries and drifts and whiteouts and whatnot — all of it. We believe in layering up. Bundling up. Wearing big coats, big boots and even bigger hats.” We believe in ice skates, snow skis and snowshoes. We believe in seeing our breath, subzero temps and icicles as big as hockey sticks.”

Central Park of Maple Grove  – Now – March (or until it melts)

We can all agree that once you’ve skated around one hockey rink you’ve skated around them all, right? Well, now in Maple Grove you can skate around an LED lit and refrigerated ice loop that is 810 feet long! Skating is free and rentals are also available on-site. Additionally, the Phenow Pavilion offers restrooms, concessions, boot cubbies, and a cozy fireplace for chilly evenings.

Minneapolis Boat Show – Thurs.-Sun., Jan. 19th-22nd

It’s winter in Minnesota and that only can mean one thing. BOAT SHOW! Get excited about the upcoming Minnesota boating season by heading to the Convention Center to check out some amazing boat and water sports exhibits.  The show runs until 9:00pm most nights (except Sunday) and is $14.00 for adults to enter. The featured boat this year is the Crestliner 1650 Super Hawk – how are you going to pass that up?!

Red Bull Crashed Ice – Saturday, Feb. 4th

Plan Early. That’s what you should always say and do, even though most of the time we don’t. That being said, we want to give you plenty of time to plan your weekend around the Red Bull Crashed Ice event this year. If you’ve ever been, you know how many people it draws because it’s such a unique an amazing event for Minnesota. Check out the website for all the details including times and scheduling.

January Adult Night at the Zoo – Saturday, Jan. 21st

We all love going to the Minnesota Zoo, but sometimes you’d like to go without all the tiny humans running all over you while you’re checking out the Takins. We get it. So that’s why the Minnesota Zoo offers adult night once a month. You can grab an “adult beverage” and wander around checking out all the animals up close – without having to worry about tripping over little Timmy and his friends!

Hockey Day Minnesota – Saturday, Jan. 21st

Because it’s Minnesota; “The State of Hockey.” “Stillwater is the proud host of Hockey Day Minnesota 2017! Hockey day Minnesota is an event sponsored the Minnesota Wild and Fox Sports North. This event is a showcase of Minnesota High School, College and Professional Hockey. This years event will be in Lowell Park in downtown Stillwater MN. Festivities start on January 21st, with gates opening at 8:00 am.”

Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival – Saturday, Jan. 28th (Noon-4pm)

What could make you feel like a kid again more than flying a kite? ”Kites of all shapes, sizes, colors and themes will fly over frozen Lake Harriet. Other fun family activities at the festival include ice fishing, horse-drawn wagon rides, snowshoeing, and a marshmallow roast.” Bring the family and enjoy a nice day outside on Lake Harriet. The weather is looking good for the time being, but then again, this is Minnesota…
