One of the most significant differences between this Mazda AWD feature and other AWD systems is that this system is always on whenever you hit the Woodbury roads. The system always tracks changing road conditions around you as well as minor changes in wheel speeds. The system uses a series of different sensors to create an image of your surrounding road conditions. The i-ACTIV AWD® system then interprets that information received from the sensors to make any necessary adjustments in the level of torque that’s directed to the front and rear axles.
Because of this, the i-ACTIV AWD® feature is known as an active torque split AWD system. If you need maximum control on rough road conditions or off-road trekking, then you would be wise to choose a Mazda AWD car with this feature.
Another feature that’s similar to Mazda i-ACTIV AWD® is the Front-Wheel Slip-Warning Detection System, which uses a series of sensors similar to i-ACTIV AWD®. However, these sensors have a slightly different function. The sensors on this feature track and monitor ground speed and front-wheel speed, and this allows the system to detect any wheel slips that could lead to a potential tire spin on the Minneapolis roads.
Torque Control System works in conjunction with with both Front-Wheel Slip-Warning and i-ACTIV AWD®. In fact, even if you’re driving in FWD mode, you’ll still have near-instant transfers of small torque levels to the rear wheels. This allows your Mazda to effortlessly switch over to AWD without any lag.
Now that you know how this active torque split AWD system works, you’re probably wondering which Mazda vehicles are equipped with this system. Here are the current Mazda AWD cars in the lineup:
